About Race In June 1998, KRON-TV first broadcast "About Race" to stimulate dialog about the role that race plays in our diverse Bay Area communities. The question was posed "Should we be teaching our children diversity skills in school?" Now, four years later, KRON 4 will revisit "About Race". This time, teachers are invited to attend "how to" professional development workshops offered throughout the Bay Area. Workshop participants will learn "how to" develop grade-specific WebQuests based on the content of "About Race." A WebQuest is an inquiry-based activity in which some or all of the information comes from resources on the Internet. This instructional strategy was originally developed at the University of San Diego by Bernie Dodge, a professor of educational technology. WebQuests of either short or long duration are designed to make the best use of students' time by being focused on a specific real-world task. Workshop participants will not only learn essential elements of the WebQuest design, but will find that skills, knowledge and attitudes learned during this workshop will transfer to other opportunities. They will learn to effectively enhance course content with Internet-based educational activities to engage students in the learning process, and improve motivation and achievement. teach diversity skills in school. ABOUT
